In November of 1989, a powerful tornado hit Huntsville Alabama during rush hour. Ripping through the south side of the city and obscured by rain, it hit the evening commuters head on, killing 12 drivers and injuring dozens more. Occurring just as a lone supercell was merging with an approaching squall line, questions arose as to how this interaction between two storms could have aided in producing the only violent tornado of this High Risk outbreak, and what would end up being the deadliest tornado to ever hit Rocket City.
