Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Dear Darwin loves a good cup of tea while writing in his journals. One night, a late knock at his door catches Darwin by surprise, and soon he will begin his very own adventure across his beautiful island, Muridae-Isle. “Dear Darwin” is a hardcover covered in olive fabric children’s book created for ages 6-12, but also for parents and grandparents to enjoy as an heirloom to be handed down for generations. It is born from the love of nature and all the beauty and danger within it. “Dear Darwin” is also born from the love of a good cup of tea!

Darwin often travels with me on the drawing board to various excursions seeking natural inspiration. The Blue Ridge Mountains have become my favorite retreat as it’s the close to my young heart. Growing up in rural Northeast Pennsylvania, I loved the fresh air, fields, dirt roads, forests, and the cute pond behind my home. I feel so fortunate to have spent my childhood outdoors and I wanted to share that experience of wonder through Darwin. Every day in my youth I had a new adventure outside and “Dear Darwin” is an exploration into my imaginative world.

One mountain excursion led me to a small North Georgia town called Dahlonega where I encountered the most wonderful Tea Shop: Tea Rabbits! I quickly became obsessed with their custom teas. Turns out that Darwin is also a fine lover of a good cup of tea, and our tea-adventure story was born!

No Visual Ai Tools! Dear Darwin is entirely hand-drawn by pencil on 140 lb. cold press watercolor cotton papers. He is then scanned in, and color is added digitally. While I love watercolor, I find digital coloring best offers the flexibility to add changes and updates for the story mood. I love self-publishing so I can meticulously select the best papers, covers, and design elements to make Dear Darwin as special as he is to my heart. I thank you for coming with me and I hope you love and enjoy Dear Darwin for generations!

As of May 15th, this project has raised $5,300 of their $10,000 goal. This project has 17 days left to raise the $10,000 or it will not be funded.
