Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment! Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others. The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal. Please enjoy today’s featured project!

That Paradise Place is a freewheeling, erotic, live puppet musical about the love, sex, and fantasy lives of artists with disabilities to be performed at NYC’s Abrons Arts Center. The show, presented by Summertime, will feature 13 original songs, larger-than-life handmade puppets, and vaudevillian performances by Pussypaws Puppetry, a collaborative puppet troupe of artists with and without disabilities.
In a culture that often overlooks the internal worlds of people with disabilities, we are forming a creative community where all facets of our humanity are worthy of being seen, sung, and celebrated. A shame-free space where creation is an act of love, and love is an act of creativity. Join us in this radical celebration of sexual liberation, disability justice, and puppet pleasure!
Puppets with a Purpose
Desire and creativity are mostly absent from conversations about justice and rights for people with disabilities. Nearly all advocacy champions only the basic facets of survival, with little regard to the pleasures and joys that make life worth living.
We reject the idea that eroticism and creativity are superfluous to a full-bodied human life, when in fact they are essential. Using puppets as a channel, the artists will express their intimate longings, erotic experiences, fears, and desires – perhaps for the first time. That Paradise Place invites viewers into the creative, wild, and sparkling erotic fantasies of human beings whose sexuality deserve recognition and celebration.
Artists will forge a creative community defined by a shared passion, not a diagnosis. Freedom, play, and experimentation will be the guiding principles as artists learn new techniques, collaborate with others, and share intimate parts of themselves that are too often silenced or shamed by an ableist, patriarchal society. By inviting our fantasies into the light, we give others permission to do the same, contributing to a world rich with spirit, silliness, and sensuality.

As of December 4th, this project has raised $15,700 of their $25,000 goal. This project has 11 days left to raise the $25,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $25, you will get a postcard. For a pledge of $50, you will get an audio file. To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pussypaws/that-paradise-place
