Howdy! My name’s Star, and I’m a comic artist! I’ve been making webcomics for over a decade, including my most recent work, Castoff, a fantasy-adventure story that has been running for 8+ years.

Since 2015, I’ve been running educational panels at anime and comic conventions, teaching attendees how to make webcomics! However, these panels were usually limited to an hour, and I could never get through everything I had to say before running out of time.

So, in 2021, I wrote a book.

The original version of How to Webcomic was a 144-page labor of love. I ran a Kickstarter in July 2021 to print it, setting a modest goal of $2000 to fund a few hundred copies of the book. However, the Kickstarter goal was blown COMPLETELY out of the water, reaching almost 20x the original funding goal! How to Webcomic proved to be extremely successful, with glowing reviews across the board!

But now, it’s been almost 2 years since that first Kickstarter… and I’m nearly sold out of physical books. Which means it’s time for a reprint!

I had the option to just reprint the original book exactly as it had been, but after the first books were printed, I started getting ideas for revisions and upgrades I could add to improve on the original: More topics I could cover, more detail I could add to certain concepts, etc. And so, I’ve spent the better part of the last year re-working How to Webcomic: Adding tons of new content, plus giving the original book a few touch-ups and revisions.

And now, in 2023, it’s time to make this new version a reality! Help us get How to Webcomic in print once again!

How to Webcomic: 2023 Edition

The updated 2023 edition of How to Webcomic includes all the content from the original book, plus ~70 pages of new, additional content! This Kickstarter is to fund both a digital, DRM-free e-book version for reading on computers and mobile devices, and a physical softcover book!

The book aims to teach you everything you need to know to jump into the wonderful world of webcomics, to help you get your story out there and succeed online! Topics in the book include (but are not limited to):

  • Concepting
  • Writing and scripting
  • Drawing for comics
  • Paneling and visual pacing
  • Art programs
  • Building a website
  • Webcomic platforms
  • Self-promotion
  • Social media marketing
  • Monetization (Patreon, etc.)
  • Building a community

…and more!

“What does the new book add?”
