Millions of American college students have studied abroad. Hundreds of thousands consider study abroad programs each year. No wonder! Study abroad programs combine education, travel, friendship, adventure, career training, wonderful experiences, and lots of fun.

BUT … are they safe?

Study abroad programs are well promoted through glossy brochures which always display smiling students enjoying uniquely fun opportunities in desirable and/or exotic locations.

But they’re also … big business. Students are recruited. Parents are solicited. And those glossy brochures say little to nothing about risks, precautions, or transparency.

While most programs are safe, some families learn too late that study abroad programs are largely unregulated. Lack of shared information can increase risk of illness, injury, or worse. And tragedies can get “buried.”

Two loving moms – Elizabeth Brenner and Ros Thackurdeen – discovered this and joined forces to do something about it.

STUDY ABROAD: Trip of a Lifetime is a documentary that follows the story of Ros and Elizabeth’s sons’ deaths, what these two moms learned in the aftermath, and their steadfast efforts to make student travel programs safer for others. Multiple Emmy-winning filmmaker Robyn Symon (director of “Do No Harm”) tells this important story through the experiences of, and in conjunction with Elizabeth, Ros, and other families, with commentary by industry experts, and video diaries of students traveling abroad.

As of December 21st, this project has raised $56,000 of their $61,500 goal. This project has 6 days left to raise the $61,500 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one stream of the film.  For a pledge of $30, you will get a download of the film.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/99625582/study-abroad-trip-of-a-lifetime?
