Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment! Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others. The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal. Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Queer people and horror films are a match made in hell, and IT CAME FROM THE CLOSET, a new anthology of essays, will show you why.
In IT CAME FROM THE CLOSET, queer and trans writers reflect on the horror films that shaped them and shook them, from Hitchcock to Halloween to Hereditary.
Horror movies hold a complicated space in the hearts of the queer community: historically misogynist, homophobic, and transphobic, the genre has also often been inadvertently feminist and open to queer, campy, subversive readings. Flamboyantly costumed villains, secret identities, things that lurk in the closet—at times, it’s almost a little too on the nose. Still, viewers are often tasked with reading between the lines of their beloved films, seeking out characters and set pieces that mirror and parallel the unique ways queerness encounters the world.
Edited by Joe Vallese, this anthology features twenty-five original essays by writers speaking to this relationship, whether the connections they draw are rooted in oppression or empowerment. From Carmen Maria Machado on Jennifer’s Body, Jude Ellison S. Doyle on In My Skin, Addie Tsai on Dead Ringers, and more, these conversations are, in Alex Marzano-Lesnevich’s words, as “beautiful, gorgeously weird, and brilliantly off-kilter as the horror genre itself.”
