Pixels Forever is a gorgeous 9″ x 12″ full-color hardcover book covering everything to do with creating pixel art. The book is broken down into 6 Sections and a Digital Resource Archive full of GIFs and Digital Art Tools to aid in your art quest.
SECTION 1: THE BASICS. Find a brief introduction to pixel art and a general explanation of its creation. You will learn important terms, concepts, and crucial basic information about digital art and pixel art specifically.
SECTION 2: LINE ART. Discover how to create solid line art, which is the foundation of pixel art. Because of the nature of pixel art, it presents unique challenges that require very specific skills to solve. You will learn the concepts of line-weight, line-color, jaggies-avoidance, uniforming shapes, the economy of detail, etc.
SECTION 3: COLOR THEORY. Learn general color theory concepts such as color harmony, complementary colors, and palette creation. Specific pixel art techniques, such as creating depth with dithering techniques, blending colors with anti-aliasing, and more color-related concepts will be examined.
SECTION 4: CHARACTER DESIGN. Arguably the most fun aspect of pixel art is character design, but it can also be the most challenging — especially since there are specific pixel art limitations. However, those same restrictions define the art form’s aesthetic, so learning to overcome them is necessary for creating readable and compelling characters. This section demonstrates how to make creative characters with visual impact and effectiveness.
SECTION 5: ANIMATIONS. A super fun aspect of pixel art, but animations take real work and know-how to pull off effectively. Learn easy-to-understand systems and tricks for simple and complex animations, beginning with basic concepts so you can immediately start animating pixel art pieces.
SECTION 6: FEATURED ARTISTS AND TUTORIALS. Top-tier artists lead through their personal creative processes to teach their own tips and tricks.
