Crowdsourcing Mornings: Catalina – Finishing Funds For LGBTQ+ Short Film

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:  https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

In August of 2021, after years of writing, rewriting, and pandemic delays we were able to bring together an exceptional team and create our short film, Catalina.

This project was inspired by a friendship, and explores the ways in which we all long for intimacy with the ones we love. We were so fortunate to have had the chance to film on-location on Catalina Island; the striking natural setting elevating and beautifully bringing into focus this nuanced story. We could not be more thrilled and proud of the result.

We are now picture-locked, preparing for festival premieres and cannot wait to share this project with you all.

We’re humbled by the team that came together to make this possible: producer Jeremy Truong and rubbertape, Executive Producer and Composer Leland, Director Tyler Rabinowitz, DP Oren Soffer, Writer and Actor Sam DiGiovanni, Casting Director Freya Krasnow, Editor Kid Sister, the most gifted and generous production team, and a few very special actors: Ronald PeetBen Holtzmuller, and Emily Wilson.

Until this point, we have funded this project ourselves and through the overwhelming generosity of friends and collaborators, many of whom not only donated their money, but their time and talents as well. Without all of them, we would not be here.

We now, however, need a final fundraising push to fully realize the vision of this film. The color, sound mix and music are the elements that bring any film to life, and are the vital components that work so hard and seamlessly that most viewers don’t even register them consciously.

Your donation would support the following:

  • Sound editor and surround sound mixer
  • Color Correction
  • Post production fees
  • Festival submission fees
  • Travel and lodging expenses for cast at film festivals

We are humbled by the support we have already received, and hope you can help bring us over the finish line.

Thank you,

Sam, Tyler, Luca & the Catalina Team
