What’s Your Ideal Gaming Set Up?

Every gamer needs a solid setup. Somewhere for them to keep their equipment where they can jump into their favorite pastime at a moment’s notice without having to rearrange a room or clear out a load of space. But what kind of setup should you have? There are dozens, if not more, different types of gaming setup and how can you tell which one is right for you? Well, one of the best ways to tell is to base it on the kind of gamer that you are. Despite the name, plenty of gamers actually approaches the hobby in completely different ways. So, to help you figure out how best to set up your gaming space, here are some tips based on what kind of gamer you might be.

The “casual” gamer

Now, don’t worry, this isn’t using the term casual as some kind of insult. Many people live incredibly busy, full lives and simply don’t have the time to dedicate to gaming in a particularly serious way. A lot of people think of gaming as just another of a whole host of hobbies that they have. If that’s the kind of relationship that you have with gaming, then a console like the PS4 or Xbox One is going to be perfect for you. The great thing about these is that they plug straight into your TV and on top of being powerful gaming systems, they also allow you to browse the web, watch YouTube and Netflix as well as listen to music. These consoles aren’t particularly big so they will fit perfectly around your current TV setup and will provide a great center for all of your entertainment. The reality is that gaming isn’t just a specific niche hobby anymore. It’s something that people all over the world do alongside all of the other ways that they keep themselves entertained. The right console means that you can switch from watching movies to listening to music to playing the newest releases in an instant and that’s the kind of convenience that the vast majority of people are really looking for after a long day’s work.

The “hardcore” gamer

Of course, you might be the kind of person who really wants to dedicate their time to their favorite hobby. For whom gaming is a central part of their daily routine. Are you the type to drool over the most advanced graphics and engines? Do you find yourself losing hours in your favorite games and playing well into the early hours of the morning? Then you need to set yourself up with a high-end gaming PC. A gaming PC is the only way to get the best and most powerful experience from your games. Then you need something like the high-quality gaming desk which is the perfect way to set up everything you need. Just make sure that you have a decent chair as well. The last thing you want is to end up injuring yourself by sitting in an uncomfortable chair for hours on end. Of course, even if you prefer playing on console there are plenty of things that you may want to do if you want to make sure that you’re getting everything out of your system.  The first thing is to make sure that you’re using the best prebuilt gaming pc possible.

Whether it’s the Xbox One X or the PS4 Pro, the highest quality system will give you exactly what you need. Not only that but you may want to make a few simple adjustments to your system like adding in some extra memory. Places like bestexternalharddrives.com can help you find a hard drive that frees up a whole lot of extra space. In recent years games like DOOM 2016 or Red Dead Redemption 2 have required installs that take up a whole lot of space on your console and without an external hard drive, you could end up with a machine that can actually only run a couple of games before running out of space immediately.

The “retro” gamer

If you’re the type of person who collects old consoles and never throws any game away, then you’re going to want the kind of setup that allows you to plug in and play your favorite classics without hesitation. Since older consoles don’t work on newer TVs, you’re either going to need some adapters or two different TVs. You’re also going to need a lot of extension cords to handle all of those devices plugged in at once. Make sure that you’re not piling the consoles too high on one another. If you can, dedicate specific spaces for them on any shelves that you might have. That way you can just boot them up, grab a controller, and away you go! This kind of setup is also something that really impacts the way a room looks. There’s just something seriously cool about a TV surrounded by vintage consoles. Of course, if you’re looking for something a little more convenient, consoles like the Nintendo Switch now feature huge libraries of retro games and there are throwback consoles coming out all the time that allow you to play the games of the past on brand new hardware.

The reality is that the concept of a “gamer” is actually kind of a limited idea. In truth, there isn’t really one single kind of gamer and everyone who enjoys playing video games does is for different reasons and gets different things out of it. Someone who only ever wants to play the retro games of their childhoods really isn’t going to get all that much out of a high-end gaming PC. In that case, the amount of gear required and customization needed is just going to be a waste of their time and their money. Think about what you really want to get out of your time spent gaming before you throw yourself into making any kind of financial commitment. Gaming can be an expensive hobby and you don’t want to end up just throwing your money away.
