The third year of the Alabama Phoenix Festival, one of the biggest events in the state of Alabama, especially for anyone who follows any fandom, is coming back for its third year in only a few weeks!  For the first two years of this festival, Geek Alabama has done exclusive coverage of this great event, to see our coverage from this festival, go to:  http://geekalabama.com/category/alabama-phoenix-festival/

So what is different this year?  First, the festival has a brand new location!  The original location along US 280 has outgrown and this year the Alabama Phoenix Festival takes place at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Birmingham.  Second, the festival has a new date, May 30th through June 1st.  The reason why the festival had to change dates is because Momocon, another great convention in Atlanta, moved their dates to Memorial Day weekend, the original weekend of the Alabama Phoenix Festival.  By moving to the weekend after Memorial Day weekend, the Alabama Phoenix Festival will see more people come and have fun!

“2014 marks the start of a new venue, new partnerships, and new events to draw people in from all over the US”, says Steve Charleson, CEO of The Alabama Phoenix Festival. “We anticipate this year to be our strongest convention yet.”  Primary programming will take place in 1 hour long blocks with 30 minute breaks between each block.  Tracks include: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Media, Comics, Paranormal, Alternate History, Costuming, Star Trek, Star Wars, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Literature, Science and Engineering, Anime and Manga, and Horror, as well as an Exhibit and Vendor Hall.

This year, the Alabama Phoenix Festival has special guests including Dan Schoening, Jim O’Rear, Stephanie Osborn, and many more awesome guests!  Special events at the 2014 Alabama Phoenix Festival includes a costume contest, Oak Hill ghost hunt, Ghostbusters movie screening, Chainmaille workshop, APF Kickoff Party, and much more.  And there are things for the entire family, like seeing cool Lego creations, kids activities, gaming, and more.  The entire family will enjoy this festival!

This year, I am hoping that I get to host a panel or two, last year, I told the event organizers that I want to host a panel or two!  I mean, I have done a lot of coverage of the Alabama Phoenix Festival and I have helped to bring more people out with the publicity!  Soon, the track schedules will be announced, and the entire schedule will be placed on the Alabama Phoenix Festival website!  You will not want to miss the 2014 Alabama Phoenix Festival.  This year, it’s not on Memorial Day weekend, which means you can enjoy the beach on Memorial Day, and come enjoy a great convention the next weekend!  Membership prices for the three-day event range from $30 to $55, and children under 8 are admitted for free. The Sheraton Birmingham is also offering a special rate of $99/night for Alabama Phoenix Festival attendees.
