Sunday Discussion: Aimee Copeland

This story has affected many people in this country and in Geek Alabama territory (which includes Carrollton.) So when the story of Aimee Copeland came into the news. Many people were shocked to hear the events that have led up to Aimee being in a hospital in Augusta, GA. Watch this video from CNN about Aimee Copeland.

University of West Georgia student Aimee Copeland was injured after she fell from riding a homemade zip-line over the Little Tallapoosa River. She cut a gash in her left leg. After getting staples her condition took a turn for the worse. She was diagnosed with Necrotizing Fasciitis. Here is a video about this disease. WARNING; there are some graphic images.

Aimee Copeland is in critical condition in an Augusta hospital and has had several limbs amputated already. When the news came out saying that Aimee’s remaining foot and both hands were going to have to be amputated; she said “Let’s do this.” That has captured the hearts and prayers in many people around the world. And when Mike Luckovich from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution did this cartoon. You have to believe that Aimee will get through this.

The community of Carrollton, GA has also been raising money and donating blood to show support for Aimee Copeland. In fact a fundraising concert for Aimee was held at Sunnyside Cafe and on May 22nd Corey Durkin will perform at Sunnyside Cafe. Corey did this song for Aimee on YouTube.
