Welcome to Disability Awesome. Each week, this post will feature a person or persons with mental and / or physical disabilities who are doing awesome things! As someone with an disability, I love it when others when disabilities do great things!
Angie grew up facing daily bullying from other children and even her teachers, who sometimes taped her mouth shut. Not understanding why she felt different, she would cry and pray, “Please make me like the other kids.” At age 50, Angie was diagnosed with autism, finally giving her answers to questions she had carried since childhood. Now 52, she shares how those years of mistreatment left her with PTSD, and how understanding her autism has led to self-acceptance. Angie wants others to know that she isn’t “weird.” Her brain simply processes the world differently.
