At 2½ years old, Keith’s speech regressed to the point that he could no longer communicate verbally. He was initially diagnosed with autism, but further evaluation revealed he is missing the part of the brain that connects the two hemispheres, a condition called agenesis of the corpus callosum. Around the same time, it was discovered that he has a deletion on chromosome 2. Keith’s family hopes other parents will encourage their children to greet him, because he is still deserving of friendship, even if he communicates differently.
