There is a traffic light on a federal interstate, and it has been there for sixty-two years.
Twelve places where the Interstate Highway System stops doing the one thing it promised. A traffic light on a federal interstate. A yield sign at the end of one. A road that lifts out of the way for a ship. And two that do not exist at all.

Why does a federal interstate stop at a set of traffic lights in a Pennsylvania village? Why was it cheaper to keep it that way for six decades than to fix it? And why do two of these gaps have no pavement on the other side at all?
