Welcome to the Good News Fridays segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Good News Fridays will feature something good, wholesome, positive, and overall something great. After a long and stressful week, we all need something good to read or watch on Fridays! Enjoy a heartwarming post below.
We went to our first ever baseball game in America in Birmingham, Alabama, and it ended up being one of those evenings that stayed with us long after we left. Before we’d even found our seats, we were handed free crawfish with our tickets. A few minutes later I was standing in the concourse being fed peeled crawfish by the vendor like it was the most normal thing in the world. It felt wonderfully surreal and completely new to us.
Before the game, we spent time at Good People Brewing Company drinking cold beer brewed right there in Birmingham and chatting with locals out on the patio. We met the brewer, who spoke proudly about what they’d built there and how it had grown into the biggest brewery in Alabama. By the time we walked over to Regions Field, the place was full of life. Music playing outside, people arriving in jerseys, the skyline glowing behind the ballpark.
Inside, everything felt easy and welcoming. Great seats, friendly people all around us, and a relaxed summer atmosphere that made it impossible not to enjoy. Watching the Birmingham Barons play the Rocket City Trash Pandas in the middle of Birmingham felt like a proper Deep South experience, and for our first ever baseball game in America, we couldn’t have chosen a better place.
