Hello!! I’m Rebecca Mac, and (with your help) I’m about to be releasing my debut record! This dream has been in the works for over two years, and I can’t wait to release it into the world. The music on this record is primarily my original compositions (except for one traditional tune), and it’s all steeped in the Klezmer music tradition–Jewish folk music from Eastern-Europe via the American diaspora. It also takes a lot of influence from other Eastern-European folk styles, primarily Transylvanian and Romanian string band music, which is music that I really love, and have spent a lot of time studying and immersing myself in over the years.
I started writing the music for this record three years ago, and it’s been an amazing experience to watch these tunes come alive! I’ve gotten to hear them transformed and reimagined by the incredible musicians and artists that I get to work with. They’ve all gone through multiple iterations, and really developed over time. I’ve learned so much as a composer, collaborator and musician through this process–I am ceaselessly grateful for it!
I had the pleasure and honor to work with some of my favorite musicians on this record, including Ira Khonen Temple on accordion, Akiva Jacobs on bass, Giulia Haible on cello, Zoe Christiansen on accordion and clarinet, Zoe Aqua on violin, and Michael McLaughlin on accordion. It’s been an amazing experience to hear these tunes come to life under the care and artistry of these incredible musicians! I’m likewise so grateful to our studio engineer, Joel Edinberg, for all the work he’s already done (and is continuing to do) to make sure this album sounds as good as it possibly can.
All the music on the record has already been recorded, and we are currently getting everything ready for final mixing and mastering! With everything going to plan, the record is going to be released in time for me and my band to hit the road in March. We’re going to need all the help we can get to make this release go smoothly and for our tour to be a success–and of course to help us have more fun along the way!
As of March 10th, this project has raised $7,500 of their $8,500 goal. This project has 3 days left to raise the $8,500 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $15, you will get one album download. For a pledge of $25, you will get one physical CD. To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rebeccamac/rebecca-macs-debut-album?
