Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment! Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as, Indiegogo, and others. The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal. Please enjoy today’s featured project!

“Sea the Impact”: Inspiring the Next Wave of Ocean Protectors. Our oceans are the heart of our planet. They’re responsible for almost half the oxygen we breathe. They regulate our climate and sustain life for millions of species, including us. Yet beneath the surface, the story is changing.
Overfishing, plastic pollution, and carbon emissions are pushing marine ecosystems to their limits. Coral reefs are bleaching, fish populations are collapsing, species are vanishing, and the very chemistry of the ocean is changing. The choices we make every day, especially the food we eat, play a major role in this crisis. If we continue on this path, the oceans’ story could become one of silence instead of life.
The good news? Change is possible. And it starts with accessible, impactful, practical education.
“Sea the Impact” will be the newest education package developed by the Educated Choices Program, a trusted provider of free, science-based learning resources reaching millions of students around the world.
This program will explore the hidden links between what we eat and the vitality of our oceans. It will give teachers the tools to bring complex environmental issues to life in engaging, age-appropriate ways and inspire young people to take meaningful action, both locally and globally.
This transformative education package will feature a captivating 12-minute video designed to engage classrooms of every kind, from middle schools to college campuses. Accompanied by dynamic resources including hands-on activities, thought-provoking discussion prompts, homework extensions, and a short quiz, it will seamlessly integrate into standard curricula and inspire meaningful reflection.
“Sea the Impact” will open students’ eyes to the profound connection between their daily choices and the health of our oceans, empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to be part of the solution and the hope our planet needs.
Through “Sea the Impact,” learners will:
- Discover how overfishing, aquaculture, and pollution affect marine life and biodiversity.
- Understand the link between our food systems and ocean acidification.
- Explore solutions, from reducing seafood consumption to choosing plant-rich foods that promote ocean recovery.
- Be inspired to take everyday actions that create a ripple of positive change.
Most young people have never learned how our food systems are connected to ocean health. They care deeply about the environment, but they need accurate information and clear ways to make a difference.
By funding “Sea the Impact,” you’re helping us fill that critical gap in education.
You’ll be directly supporting the creation of a powerful, accessible resource that will reach millions of students in schools, colleges, and community programs across the world.
Together, we can equip the next generation with the knowledge and compassion needed to protect the oceans that sustain us all.
As of December 16th, this project has raised $9,000 of their $15,000 goal. This project has 33 days left to raise the $15,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $5, you will get a digital poster. For a pledge of $50, you will get one tote bag.
