Welcome to the Trainscapes segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Trainscapes will feature train content including videos of trains and behind the scenes action of trains and locomotives. Some people have an interest in seeing trains, and we here at Geek Alabama aim to please the train lovers!
The Minnesota Commercial Railway had the LAST two running ALCo RS27 in the WORLD. This came to end in early 2023, and by that summer, the RS27s have been stored, likely to never run again. Lets take a look back when these famous locomotives were still in daily use on the railroad.
Lets take a look at the Minnesota Commercial’s pair of RS27s, the last two in existence! Having been built for the CNW back in 1962, these locomotives had a long, and interesting service life. Serving out the better part of three decades for the Minnesota Commercial, we’ll see MNNR 316 and MNNR 318 working around the Twin Cities, and kicking up LOADS of smoke. These rare locomotives will be seen on jobs such as the Hugo, Hennepin, and other parts of the railroad. At each spot, we’ll learn more about them, the area, and fascinating history.
