Nearly 30 years after the release of Twister, a film maybe not remembered for being the “best thing ever” but an important landmark in the history of visual effects in cinema. With ILM taking the challenge from Stephen Spielberg to come up with a way to visually show a tornado in a convincing and terrifying way. And while it really doesn’t hold up today, it’s still an important film. But now with the follow-up, reboot, sequel film Twisters screeching its way into theaters, let’s take a look at how this film built upon the lessons we’ve learned over 3 decades to create this film.
