Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Hi! I’m Jeremy Schaefer, and currently I’m an animator at DreamWorks Animation Studios. I’ve worked on The Bad Guys, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Trolls 3, and most recently, The Wild Robot. Wanna see what I’ve worked on? click here

I’m also the creator of the viral animated short film, THE BOX ASSASSIN. If you’re wondering, “What the heck is the box assassin?” Well…simply put, he’s an assassin that can use any box around him to deliver death. Intrigued? Keep reading or if you haven’t already seen the first installment see it below.

Currently, The Box Assassin has over 27 MILLION VIEWS on YouTube alone. I never could’ve imagined that a short film I made in college would get this much traction, but it didn’t stop there! Shortly after releasing it, I got a few calls from Hollywood agents, giving me the opportunity to develop The Box Assassin as an animated series!

By 2021, there were producers, a showrunner, and a whole studio attached. We took the pitch out to market. We sold it not just once, but twice. Meaning – we had two networks ready to make offers! Success, right!?!?!

Not quite…a few months into negotiation I was caught in the crossfire of the pandemic, entertainment corporations with plummeting stocks, and executive leadership changes. This resulted in BOTH networks backing out.

And to top it off, I had to wait 18 months to get the rights back from the studio I was partnered with. I pushed a boulder up a giant hill over so many years. And then just I had to sit back and watch it roll all the way to the bottom.

BUT I’m not staying there, I’m ready to push it back up that hill again!

I’ve decided to expand this universe on my own terms.
So buckle in, and help me me bring to life the next installment of The Box Assassin.

That first short took me about a year to make as a full time student. From storyboarding to modeling, texturing, layout, animation, lighting, editing, visual effects.

25K is our initial goal which will get things going, but the more we raise. The more Box Assassin there will be! This is due to me still having a full time job. More funds allow me to hire more help. Otherwise, it’ll mostly be up to me in my free time.

I would love to bring in additional artists & animators to not only help finish in a reasonable amount of time, but also to help me to continue to PUSH the QUALITY!

Here’s the vision for The Box Assassin series. Each installment (episode) will follow a new character recounting their encounter with the mythical man who appears in boxes. A pizza delivery driver given the wrong address was just the beginning…

( Don’t be sad though 😉 we’re not done with Craig the pizza delivery driver )

Each installment will peel away a new layer surrounding this mysterious assassin, his past, and the world that surrounds him. Who employs him? What other kinds of bizarre assassins are there? And how the hell does he pop out of these boxes?

I want to answer all of these questions, and that’s where YOU ALL come in!

As of June 12th, this project has raised $45,000 of their $25,000 goal. This project has 17 days left to raise as much as it can. For a pledge of $25, you will get digital updates including a soundtrack.  For a pledge of $50, you will get a digital episode download and two posters.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theboxassassin/webseries?
