How Can Complex Medical Topics Become Accessible and Intriguing to Patients?
As a doctor with extensive experience, I’ve been fascinated by the curiosity my patients show towards understanding the human body. Their keen interest, especially in complex topics like the immune system, heart disease, and dementia, highlights the power of narrative in making these subjects accessible and intriguing. This insight led to a creative collaboration with my brother, a talented writer, for a science based educational series, the first publication of which will be funded by this Kickstarter campaign.
Humming Heroes: Inside the Nose That Almost Nobody Knows
Our debut book, ‘Humming Heroes’, is a venture with Lumienta Publishing to demystify the human immune system for all ages. This rhyming picture book, illustrated in the style of needle-felted art, makes learning both fun and informative.
The story unfolds in the imaginative setting of a child’s nose, narrating the adventures of a Lymphocyte family—comprising a wise Mother, brave Father, determined Brother, and heroic Baby—as they battle invading microorganisms. The narrative takes an imaginative leap, combining the child’s humming with the Lymphocytes’ efforts, symbolizing the power of unity in overcoming challenges.
The Mission:
Our mission with ‘Humming Heroes’ is to narrow the chasm between scientific complexity and layperson understanding. It’s an invitation for both children and adults to embark on an educational journey into the captivating world of the immune system.
