With COLOR, I’m on a journey to experience the many different ways of seeing and experiencing color. It’s necessary to witness Holi and Mardi Gras to better understand how these different cultures cherish and celebrate color. In addition to a cultural understanding, how do nature and science meet to create color? The Northern lights are an active observation of the magnetic film surrounding Earth, protecting us from solar flares casting their energy across the sky. The coral reefs in Australia remind us of the depth in which color exists to serve as part of our ecosystem. Through this documentary, I would like to create a closer connection to nature and science, spirituality, and human hood, where color can be experienced across dimensions of space and cultural perspectives.
Over my 13 years of studying art, I’ve always had a deep fascination with color. The abstract expressionist movement introduced me to a new way of experiencing color through painting. It was activated, reductive, essential, loud, soft, transcendental, and physical amongst other things. It taught me that color held more meaning than just a way to describe something you see. Color has a soul. When I decided to be an artist and become a maker of abstract art, I knew that color would play a big role in how my work developed.
