How To Let Go Of Anxiety In Your Daily Life

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition in the US. This is because anxiety comes in many different forms, from GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) to social anxiety. However, according to a recent study, 75% of people do not reach out for care and support.

As a result, if you’re dealing with heightened anxiety, it’s important to note that you aren’t alone. And, while it can sometimes feel unavoidable, there are steps you can take to let go of anxiety in your daily life. For example, you can:

Ask yourself whether or not the worry is ‘practical’. 

Anxious thoughts and worries can be broken down into two categories, practical and impractical. Practical worries are thoughts that are concerned with things that could happen. For example, you may be worried about messing up in a job interview. Impractical worries are based largely on fiction and do not have the same grounding. For example, a friend may take longer to reply than usual to your text message. Instead of assuming they are busy, you may think this means they don’t like you.

Being able to assess your worries and figure out whether or not they are practical works wonders in easing your mind. If they are impractical, you can tell yourself that. If practical, you can put plans in place to resolve the issue.

Start by spending some time with a close friend or family member you know you can trust and open up to them. Once you’ve started the initial conversation, you’ll likely find it easier to open up again. They may also be able to provide you with helpful advice moving forward.

In some cases, you may also benefit from speaking to a mental health professional, such as counselor or therapist. If you don’t want to talk to somebody face-to-face, keep an eye out for providers that offer telephone or virtual appointments. This way, you can remain in the comfort of your own home while also getting the support you need. 


Exercise more frequently. 

Making more time in your busy routine for exercise is another great way to reduce anxiety. This is because exercise decreases stress hormones, such as cortisol while increasing endorphins that make you feel good. It can also give you a significant confidence boost by improving your relationship with your body.

As a result, it’s important that you dedicate some time each week to working out. If the gym has never been your thing, don’t worry. There are plenty of fun exercise activities out there for you to try, from team sports to home workouts that you can participate in on your lunch break. To put it simply, there’s something out there for everyone and a little research will help you to find something you truly enjoy. Furthemore, you don’t need to work out for hours on end – ten to fifteen minutes a day can make a huge difference. If your day is a little busier than usual, try going for a short walk instead.


Remove yourself from negative situations. 

Sometimes, the environments in which we spend our time contribute considerably to our levels of stress and anxiety. For example, you may find that your workplace is a toxic and competitive environment which sends feelings of self-doubt into overdrive. Alternatively, you may find that a certain friend always makes comments that put you down, resulting in low confidence. Either way, the more time you spend in negative environments, the easy it is to fall into a low mood. As a result, you must find a way to remove yourself from these situations.

Remember, no job or friendship is worth sacrificing your mental health for. You deserve to be surrounded by people who lift your spirits and make you smile – not the other way around. Never feel ashamed for putting yourself first, especially when working towards better mental health.
