Roadscapes Wednesday: America’s Deadliest Freeway Engineering Disaster

In this video from the YouTube channel Road Guy Rob, you get to see what happened during America’s deadliest freeway engineering disaster.  Back in 1989 during a huge earthquake in the San Francisco area, a double-decker section of Interstate 880 collapsed.

The double-decker freeway pancaked onto itself, crushing over 40 people under the mass of its rubble. Now, exactly 30 years later, Rob digs into an important government report which shows the lessons Civil Engineering has learned — to ensure the Cypress Freeway Disaster is the last.
