Sunday Discussion: Remembering Broadcaster Joe Langston

Geek Alabama Discussion

On Saturday, a broadcast legend on Birmingham TV, Joe Langston, passed away at age 82.  Joe started his TV news career in 1962 on WBRC-TV, and bounced around between WBRC and WVTM, both on Red Mountain.  Joe Langston became the fixture for evening news in the Birmingham TV market before retiring in 1987.  Langston then worked for Jacksonville State University until he fully retired in 1998.  Joe Langston won numerous awards, was a part of many clubs, and was a member of the Alabama Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

Since I was born in 1986, I do not have much of a memory of Joe Langston, but many people who knew him have said he was a sweet, funny, and overall good guy.  If Joe was not a part of the Birmingham TV fixture, the media market would not have grown into how big it is today.  Several TV talents we see on Birmingham TV today owe their growth and talents from learning from Joe Langston.  So, to honor Joe Langston, I am embedding a few videos and tweets from people who knew him, enjoy!
