Almost 12 years ago, KOMO News photojournalist Doug Pigsley and I went to visit a 10-year-old kid named Jonathan Carollo.
The thing about Jonathan was that he could bang out a really cool beat on a washing machine.
Before our visit, Jonathan and his dad, Dan, had posted a video of his washing machine exploits on YouTube.
It had gone viral, so we went out to tell the unusual, and oddly fascinating, story. Every station in town did the same thing. It was one of those irresistible stories.
The other day, we were sitting in the newsroom, talking about story ideas, when Joan Kinsey, our Eric’s Heroes producer, said, “I wonder whatever happened to that little kid who used to bang on the washing machine.”
“Who knows?” Eric said and thought nothing more of it.
And do you know what? She found him.
