Sunday Discussion: Why Flock Is Dividing America

Welcome to the Sunday Discussion segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Sunday Discussion will feature a serious topic that needs to be featured and talked about. You can “discuss” it on your own social media networks as comments are banned here on Geek Alabama.

Flock was initially sold to communities and police departments as a sophisticated network of license plate readers designed to help reduce crime.

Since then, it has grown into something much larger: a sprawling surveillance network capable of tracking people as they move through their daily lives. Data collected by these cameras can be accessed by thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country, raising serious questions about privacy, oversight, and how information about law-abiding citizens is being used.

Now, communities are pushing back. Residents, privacy advocates, and local officials are demanding accountability—and in some cases rejecting the idea that their movements should be continuously recorded by a multibillion-dollar surveillance company.

And seemingly the only thing more common than Flock cameras are new controversies, developments, and revelations surrounding them.

In this video, we break down everything you need to know about Flock and how this rapidly expanding surveillance network works.

We speak with Benn Jordan, Chris the Producer, and DeFlock, and sit down for an exclusive interview with Flock CEO Garrett Langley.

From how Flock works and who can access its data to the growing backlash against it, this is everything you need to know about Flock.
