More and more people here in Alabama are complaining about Alabama Power. And they have every right to be complaining.
Customers on Alabama Power pay among some of the highest electricity rates of any company in this country.
Customers on Alabama Power cannot put solar panels on their home without paying a solar tax.
Customers on Alabama Power have to often deal with power outages because they do not want to invest in their infrastructure.
And the lists go on.
When I drive down the road and look at the power lines on the side of the road, you can often tell it’s from Alabama Power. There are still numerous extremely old power poles they are using.
And you can look at the foliage growing into the lines in many places. You see branches, and trees nudging right up next to the steel wires carrying electricity.
This explains why your power goes out when the wind simply blows.
There’s one road nearby that has two power lines. One power line is from Alabama Power. And the other power line is from an Electric Co-op.
The Electric Co-op power lines use better poles, the wires are more spread out, and the foliage is cut back dramatically.
Meanwhile the Alabama power line is using very old poles, old wiring, and you can see foliage right up next to the line.
Keep in mind people on Alabama Power pay among some of the highest electric rates in the entire country.
So where is all that money going at Alabama Power?
Oh I know, campaigns!
There are ads running on TV right now from Alabama Power touting a rate freeze. Alabama Power charges high rates. And they are convincing business owners to appear on TV in their advertising to promote rate freezes. How ironic is that?
Alabama Power also sponsors local media, and other things.
So instead of, I don’t know, lowering the rates. Alabama Power instead takes the money from consumers and spends it on media campaigns and media organizations. What a waste of money!
Alabama power is also using money from consumers to have a very big say in Alabama politics.
They regularly give contributions to people running for office. And they get a very big say in Public Service Commission meetings.
So instead of helping to lower rates, money from Alabama power is going to greedy corrupt politicians.
Don’t you love that!
Alabama power does not want to do the right things.
They don’t want to do anything possible to help lower rates.
They don’t want to do anything possible to upgrade their infrastructure.
They don’t want to do anything possible to generate cleaner ways of energy.
That’s Alabama Power for you
And I don’t blame their linemen. Their linemen do a wonderful job to get people’s power back on as quickly as possible after a major storm.
All the blame goes to corporate.
I know there’s a lot of people on Alabama Power that would love to be a part of the TVA system.
Where there rates are lower, and people can install solar panels without any penalties.
But none of that is possible on the Alabama power system.
Because Alabama Power only cares about one thing, greed.
