Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

This is Strawberry Vampire: a weird, heartfelt animated series about a family of strawberry-draining vampires trying to adjust to life in America

It’s created by Emily Brundige, the creator of the Emmy-nominated Apple TV show GOLDIE , former Head Writer on Hilda, and the mind behind the cult-favorite YouTube series Pubertina, as well as the founder of her one-woman animation studio, Li’l Toughy.

Following the success of our pilot animatic episode on YouTube last year, this kickstarter will aim to fund the second episode animatic — with a stretch goal of funding the third.

The series follows Franny, a 113-year-old lovable vampire tween as she navigates middle school, coming of age as a vampire, and staying true to herself and her culture.

At its heart, Strawberry Vampire is an immigrant story about belonging, about growing up between two worlds and figuring out who you are.

It’s a story about being different, standing out, and finding your place, even when the world doesn’t quite know what to do with you.

Think The Munsters meets What We Do in the Shadows — but for all ages — with my own brand of comedy and quirkiness mixed in.

Original animated shows are harder than ever to get made, especially strange, heartfelt stories like this one.

But something exciting is happening right now. Creators are finding new ways to build shows directly with their audiences. That’s what Strawberry Vampire is about.

It’s a grand experiment in creating original kids animation independently, one episode at a time, funded by the fans through crowdfunding, Patreon, and merch.

That means you become part of our Strawbanian family, helping Franny and her family continue their story through a series, shorts, graphic novels, video games, and more.

We’ve seen this model work with adult animation channels, but it hasn’t really existed yet for a family animated series like Strawberry Vampire.

And I hope to help make that possible. Because Strawberry Vampire is for everyone.

This Kickstarter will fund the next episode animatic of Strawberry Vampire, continuing Franny’s story and expanding the world of Strawbania.

And if we reach our stretch goal, we’ll be able to produce Episode 3 as well.

Every dollar goes directly toward the artists, musicians, voice actors, and creators helping bring this world to life.

If you believe kids deserve original animated stories — weird ones, heartfelt ones, the kinds of shows that stay with you for life — we’d love for you to join us.

The future of animation doesn’t have to come from big studios alone. Sometimes it can start with a small group of creators… and a community that believes in them.

Back the project, share it with a friend, and help us bring more of Strawbania to life.

As of March 31st, this project has raised $17,200 of their $37,000 goal. This project has 20 days left to raise the $37,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $40, you will get one enamel pin.  For a pledge of $80, you will get one plush keychain.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/strawberryvampire/strawberry-vampire-help-us-make-the-next-episode
