Welcome to Disability Awesome. Each week, this post will feature a person or persons with mental and / or physical disabilities who are doing awesome things! As someone with an disability, I love it when others when disabilities do great things!
The other day, as I was driving past this property, I noticed a huge dead bush hanging over the front fence and weeds spilling across the walkway. I pulled over to take a closer look, and it was clear the whole place was in desperate need of some care.
I knocked on the door and met Ray, the homeowner. He shared with me that he’s been struggling with MS, which has made it impossible for him to look after his garden. Ray explained that he’s part of a government program here in Australia that provides support for elderly and disabled people, but he’d been having a hard time finding anyone to help with his yard.
I told him I’d be happy to clean it up for free. At first he was a little unsure and asked to see my ID. Once I showed him, he relaxed, felt more comfortable, and agreed to let me help.
