“I have nothing to lose at this point, and I am just trying to get them to see that these are people.” Iowa mother Nancy Baker Curtis relies on Medicaid to help care for her son, Charles William Curtis, who has complex medical needs.

In a video that went viral on social media, Baker Curtis says she traveled to Washington D.C. with her son and attempted to meet with her elected official, Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, over the proposed cuts to Medicaid in the GOP budget bill. She says she was turned away. We spoke with Baker Curtis about her message to lawmakers.
