5 DIY Skincare Products You Can Make At Home

When you purchase amazing skincare products, take a look at the ingredient lists. Typically, companies include a bunch of ingredients that are hard to pronounce. However, it’s pretty common to find ingredients that you have in your refrigerator or kitchen cupboard. Knowing this, it’s a great idea to try and make your own skincare products at home. You’ll know exactly what’s going into your products, and you’ll be able to nourish your skin in a very customized way. If you’re interested in DIY skincare, consider making these five products at home.

1. Oil Cleanser

Oil cleansers are typically used as part of a double-cleansing method. The double-cleansing method is closely associated with many Korean skincare routines. If you look at most oil cleansers, they contain safflower oil, sunflower oil, or olive oil as their base ingredient. You can always choose to add additional oils such as almond oil, essential oils, or different carrier oils. However, make sure this is a light combination because it’s meant to break down the oil and dirt that’s trapped within your pores.

2. Bar Soap

Find a soap base that you like. You can get bases that are made of oatmeal, coconut milk, or another clean ingredient. Once you get the soap base, melt it down in a double boiler. Once the soap melts and cools down, add your ingredients. You can opt to add your choice of essential oils in order to get a certain scent. Lavender oil, peppermint oil, and any citrus oil will work perfectly. Then, you’ll want to consider herbs, spices, and other ingredients. If you want a citrus-based soap, add lemon peels, orange peels, or grapefruit peels that are finely chopped. If you want lavender-based soap, add dried lavender petals to the soap mold. Once you’ve added your other ingredients to the soap mold, you can then pour the soap base into the soap mold. Once it hardens, you’ll have a lovely customized soap.

3. Pain Relief Balm

While there are plenty of salves for pain relief, there’s nothing like having the ability to reach into your cupboard and create your own soothing balm. For pain relief, it’s best to use ingredients that are known to provide results such as CBD or capsaicin (found in cayenne pepper). It’s wise to use a good base like shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter. Melt it down in a double boiler. Once it’s melted, add ingredients such as CBD isolate, CBD oil, or any essential oils to make the base smell in a specific way. Essential oils, such as eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and rosemary oil can provide their own sense of relief as well.

4. Exfoliating Body Scrub

If you’d like to regularly get rid of dead skin cells, it’s best to exfoliate your skin on a weekly basis. Use ingredients such as coffee grounds, sea salt, or sugar in order to provide resistance. Use emollients such as coconut oil, olive oil, or sweet almond oil in order to create a mixture that moisturizes at the same time. It can also be great to meltdown a specific butter such as mango butter or cocoa butter in order to fit in with the other ingredients. You don’t want the finely ground ingredients to cause tears and abrasions to the skin. By providing moisture from butter or oil, you can supplement the exfoliation process with an intense amount of moisture.

5. Anti-Aging Serum

While the aging process can be extremely beautiful, it’s not uncommon for women to want to slow the process down. By using an anti-aging serum, it’s possible to delay the process in a gradual manner. To create a homemade version, use ingredients such as aloe vera gel and frankincense oil in order to create a serum. Frankincense is known as an anti-aging powerhouse. Aloe vera gel is soothing and calming for the skin. Add Vitamin E oil to preserve the integrity of the serum for as long as possible. Add any other choice of essential oil or carrier oil in order to boost the anti-aging properties and effectiveness for the skin.

Always remember that when you’re using natural ingredients in your skincare products, they will have an expiration date. This is why it’s a good idea to include preservatives to make the shelf life last longer. One of the best preservatives to consider is Vitamin E oil. If you don’t want to add preservatives, you can just focus on making skincare products in small batches. Once a small batch is complete, you can make another batch that is used within a specific time frame. Still, you’ll be able to naturally tend to your skin and develop customized skincare products whenever you want.
