Crowdsourcing Mornings: Insider Art

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:

During the 2020 Covid-19 crisis, the comics community saw our beloved retailers struggling to keep their shops going. From “shelter-in-place” orders to economic uncertainty, business owners were left without much support. Not only has the pandemic negatively impacted their livelihood, but it’s compromised what all of us need these days: a safe space.

For many, comic book stores are a place of acceptance, joy, and discovery. This is particularly important for people of marginalized genders who might not have access to other inclusive places with like-minded individuals, which means it’s specifically important to provide assistance to comic book stores owned, operated, and staffed by women and people of marginalized genders.

That’s where INSIDER ART came in. Developed by Shelly Bond, INSIDER ART assembled 150 women and non-binary comics creators from around the world. This 270-page digital anthology raised over $5K on Gumroadwith all of the proceeds benefiting 28 retailers who reached out for support. And now with your help, we want to bring a softcover version of the book to everyone

While the digital version of INSIDER ART will remain exclusively on Gumroad, we’ve had many requests for a softcover for people who prefer a paperback reading experience. With your help, we’ll be able to provide this astounding 4-color compendium for print-lovers to enjoy and as a bonus, pay the 150 creatives who generously donated their time and talents.

As of September 9th, this project has raised $24,000 of their $25,000 goal. This project has 2 days left to raise the $25,000 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $5, you will get one postcard.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one softcover book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
