By Nathan Young on 05/05/2014

The Doodle 4 Google contest is held each year and it allows kids from grades K-12 to create their own unique Google logo drawing and enter it to be featured on the Google homepage for 24 hours!  This year, the theme for the Doodle 4 Google contest is “If I Could Invent One Thing to Make the World a Better Place.”  And the public gets to vote for their favorite Google Doodle drawing.  Other than being featured on the Google front page, the winner also gets a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education technology grant for his or her school, so this is a big deal!  Now, one person from Alabama has her drawing in the running!

Ansley Grider, from Fort Payne Middle School, is one of 49 people that has their drawings in the running for the grand prize.  Ansley’s drawing is about a cure for cancer, she describes her drawing by saying “I would invent a cure for cancer because it would save so many lives.  It would give millions of people the chance to live, to love, and to make countless contributions to society that would make the world a better place.”  Ansley’s selection of a cure for cancer was inspired by her father’s cancer diagnosis in 2012.  And there would be nothing better than seeing this Google Doodle win!

So, here is what you need to do to vote for Ansley’s drawing!

  1. Go to google.com/doodle4google.
  2. Select grades “8-9.”
  3. Click on the “Ansley G, AL” doodle.
  4. Repeat using all your Internet-enabled devices (computers, smart phones, tablets including iPads, etc.) and every Web browser on each device.  For example, if your computer has the Explorer, Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome Web browsers, open each one and follow the steps above to vote.  You also can download these browsers for free.

You have until Friday May 9th at 8 pm to vote, so get voting!
