I always love taking photos and videos of the road infrastructure. And this week I decided to take pictures of the road I live on in Anniston. Greenbrier Dear Rd. is a major road in the Anniston/Oxford area. It starts off of Noble St. and goes over Greenbrier Mountain as a 4-lane Rd. The road then goes through the Golden Springs area and serves as a bypass to several busy roads in the area. Why is it called Greenbrier Dear Rd? The road was renamed Claude Dear Jr. Parkway to honor former Anniston mayor Claude Dear Jr. who was mayor from 1962-1969. This time was very tough in the segregation fight and Claude Dear Jr. was elected mayor after the Freedom Riders bus bombing on Mother’s Day 1962. Claude Dear Jr. worked to end segregation and bring Anniston back together from racism and that’s why he’s honored in Anniston. Part of the road is about to be repaved but the rest of the road could use a fresh coat of road paint. Enjoy the pictures!
