This weekend is Volume 5 of Geek Media Expo in Nashville, TN.  GMX bills itself as the next-generation multi-fandom exposition and has quickly become one of the top geek conventions in the southeast and Tennessee’s largest celebration of geekdom.  GMX is presented by ArtsCubed, a Nashville-based not-for-profit corporation.  The mission of ArtsCubed is to advance popular visual, performing and literary arts – along with related cultural experiences central to the lives of the community – through events, outreach, education and associated initiatives.  ArtsCubed also presents GMX’s sister event MTAC – Middle Tennessee Anime Convention.  ArtsCubed is operated entirely by a volunteer staff.

GMX is an annual exposition and social conference relating primarily to the popular arts, sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, and relevant cultural/lifestyle themes, presented as an educational and multi-media entertainment showcase.  This year, GMX is doing a speaker series.  Where professionals and experts of various trades are asked to stand up and present their ideas/stories/research/etc. Through this series, the speakers are given 15 minutes or less and challenged to inspire, awe, and educate while incorporating a predetermined theme using their voice, a projector, props, instruments, or whatever means necessary.  This year’s theme is Community.  Speakers will include Nashville mayor Karl Dean, Alison Rinner, Amy Zimmerman, Brianna Reed, Chris McPherson, Cleta D. Paige, Daniel Fernandez, Dennis R. Upkins, Katie Daniels, Matt Dolson, and Theo Wellington.

GMX will also feature the cosplay contest.  As you know, cosplay has gotten very popular in the last few years.  And GMX will have a contest where the winner will get $1,000.  GMX will also feature the Room Party Rumble on Friday and Saturday night.  This party is a themed party showcase in which the fans throw parties in the entertainment room block on Friday and Saturday nights.  Each year, the staff will judge the best party based on their overall execution in theme.  GMX will also feature many vendors, people dressed in costumes, and multiple music acts such as Cadets, Jones World, Lipstick, Nuclear Bubble Wrap, Super Shaker, Spoken Nerd, and Them Vibes.

And let’s talk about the guests at Volume 5.  GMX will have guests including Steve Downes from Halo, Kristian Nairn and Amrita Acharia from Game of Thrones, Rob Paulsen from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marv Wolfman, Timothy Zahn, Amber Nash, Chris Pope, Eric Powell, and many more!  There will also be 20 tracks/channels including Film, TV, sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, costuming, science, tech – it’s all there!  Geek Media Expo released this video and yes, God Made A Geek!

Geek Media Expo Volume 5 runs from Friday November 1st to Sunday November 3rd.  The event takes place at the Cool Springs Conference Center & Franklin Marriott in Franklin, TN.  Passes are $45 for the entire weekend!  Learn more about Geek Media Expo at: http://geekmediaexpo.com/  Follow them on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/whatisgmx and on Twitter @geekmediaexpo.
