Welcome to Disability Awesome. Each week, this post will feature a person or persons with mental and / or physical disabilities who are doing awesome things! As someone with an disability, I love it when others when disabilities do great things!

A Washington man who lost his sight decades ago is now helping others see their lives more clearly by sharing his story of resilience and purpose.

Clark Roberts learned his life would change forever while attending college.

“That took place 53 years ago on February 28th when I was a freshman attending the University of Idaho,” Roberts said. “The doctor informed me that I had a disease known as retinitis pigmentosa, and I had a timeline of about 15 years to go totally blind.”

The surprise diagnosis was overwhelming for Roberts.

“I was frustrated, mad, and depressed, but probably the thing that really hit me, and I was scared because I didn’t know how, from that day forward, that I was going to be able to live as somebody who couldn’t see.”
