Massiah is an autistic kid living in section 8 housing with his single mom named Takesha. They live in a crowded building with shared walls in every direction. Neighbors constantly complain about Massiah being loud, calling him a “bad kid”. Takesha tries to appease her neighbors by preventing Massiah’s stimming, but this often results in self-injurious behaviors. Takesha wants others to know that autistic children exist in low-income neighborhoods, and they aren’t “bad kids”.
