Happy World Autism Acceptance / Awareness Day 2024, My Thoughts About The Past Year Living With Autism

Well happy World Autism Acceptance / Awareness Day.  Throughout the month of April, it is a time to celebrate and understand all Autistic people.  You see, every autistic individual is different. Some can function as adults, while others have severe conditions that require help.

In this post, I want to talk about my life living under the Autism Spectrum.  In the past year, I have been constantly bullied, made fun of, harassed, called numerous bad names, ignored, and pretty much anything else that affects my mental health negatively.  And when extreme right-wingers like Jack Posobiec harass you, it can get very bad.

As someone who is a talented Autism and disabled content creator, mostly all my videos and photos I upload onto social media usually attracts horrible comments.   And I’m used to this, because it seems like there is a concentrated effort, especially from right-wingers, to bully and harass anyone with a disability, including those with Autism.

The amount of negative harassing comments that I get with my social media posts is alarming.  I have had all kinds of comments ranging from making fun of my weight, making fun of my disability, making fun of my viewpoints, and a few comments from people who wish that I would harm myself which include death threats.

I even had someone create a fake Twitter / X account and sent out a huge amount of false, misleading things about myself.  Including this tweet that accused me of having gay sex with someone I did an interview with.  I mean, it has been that disgusting from many people around here.

And sadly, it’s like that, but I understand that’s the world we live in today.  And sadly, when I check out the profiles of the people leaving the bad comments, it’s usually coming from extreme right-wingers.  Yep, these extremists, right-wingers are the ones leaving the bad comments.

And why does that not surprise me, because they’re God, oh I’m sorry, Donald Trump, has made fun of people with disabilities.  And it seems like there’s a concentrated effort to bully and force people with disabilities back into hiding.  And it’s coming from people who support Trump or anyone MAGA.

And it’s not just from Republicans; you also got these so-called Christian people, or religious fundamentalists, who are also kicking people with disabilities now as well.   And when you read all this, you can probably understand why I do not trust people who call themselves “Christian”.

Because I’ll be honest, if I went to pretty much any church today, I would call out what the preacher said, and it would likely result in the police being called, so I don’t waste my time going to any church, because I don’t feel welcomed there.  I spend my Sunday mornings sleeping in on my bed, the best way to enjoy my morning.

And I have a lot to be worried about, because where I live here in Alabama, it seems like our state government and legislature has pushed in all the poker chips and gone all-in on an all-out culture war to villainize anyone who is different, from LGBTQ people to people with disabilities.

Recently our state legislature passed anti-DEI guidelines.  And something like this makes me feel unwelcome here in Alabama. Because of our legislature, I will not feel welcomed in any school or college in Alabama.  Because part of the DEI is inclusivity, and since we have banned inclusivity in our schools and colleges, our government in Alabama pretty much gave the middle finger to me or anyone else with disabilities.

Our state government has told people with disabilities that we don’t matter, and wishes we just die off quickly.

And because I say it like it is on social media, there are numerous businesses and companies here in Alabama or anyone across the Southeast or any red state that will never consider me for a job or position. One example, a person I used to work with was looking for a photographer, and hey, I am a talented photographer myself.   But no, this person hired someone else.  That was like an insult to me.  Someone contacts me, then pulls the rug from under me, it happens a lot with me.

And this happens to me on a weekly basis.   Sadly, there are many people here in Alabama or in any red state who do not value anyone with a disability and wish people with disabilities would just go into hiding and disappear forever.  This is my life here in Alabama.

And I’m afraid it’s going to get worse here in Alabama and in the United States, because the extremist Republicans only care about their culture war crap. And part of the culture wars is about people with disabilities sadly.   Anyone who is different here in Alabama or in any red state is a target by these extremist government MAGA Republicans.

And that includes myself.   Because I am an individual with a disability, and it feels like anyone with a disability is an extreme target by these extremist, Christian, Fundamentalist, MAGA, right-wingers.

And of course, I worry about the upcoming 2024 elections, and if Trump got elected president again.  Because he has ridiculed people with disabilities and targeted programs that help those with disabilities, I worry about my future here.  With me having a disability and popular online, I worry that Trump and the extreme MAGA republicans would go after me.  Yes, I do wonder if I will have to flee the United States.

And while I am living in a current world where my safety is on the line, my mental health is on the line, my well-being is on the line, I always have to watch my back because of the amount of people who do not like me simply because I have a disability, or they do not like my viewpoints, or they see me as vulnerable because of my size.  Because of the amount of hate I receive, whenever I go out, I must look over my shoulder.  I must hope I don’t make more neighbors where I live at hate me.

This is the reason why I cannot have roommates, or live in a tight-knit housing area like an apartment complex.  Because what happens is the vast majority of people like me at first, and then they turn to hate and bully me.  I compare it to quickly turning into a zombie on The Walking Dead, it usually happens that quick.

I am hoping to find an independent place for me to live at soon, because the current place I live at is falling apart.  When you see the pictures below, you can understand why.

And even though many people ignore me, hate me, bully me, and harass me, I am going to continue to do what I do best, creating content as someone with Autism.  I am going to continue to take videos, I am going to continue to take photos, I am going to continue to write articles, I am going to continue to do podcasts, I am going to continue to be creative.

Because that is the one thing mostly everyone with Autism can do very well, be creative!  Every person with Autism is creative in something different.  And that could be why there is so much hate from others.  Because non-neurodivergent people do not understand how living with Autism is like.

It feels like the ultra-MAGA, extremist conservatives do not value anyone who can be very creative.  Is it because they lack the IQ, or emotional well-being to understand people like us?  Since I started Geek Alabama and my social channels, I have over 2 million readers on this site, and thousands following my social media channels.

I see that the vast majority of right-wingers do not accept or value anyone who can be “CREATIVE”.  No amount of bullying or hate is going to stop me from doing what I do best.  And I expect to see more hate and disgust coming my way, life with Autism comes with that.

Honestly, I wish it wasn’t like this, but this is where we are at in 2024.  It’s sad to know that there are so many bigoted, hateful, extremist individuals here in Alabama or any red areas.  It should not be that way.   But thanks to the right-wing media ecosystem, it’s all reality today.
