Us older folks remember the Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego computer games. And we definitely remember the game show that used to air on PBS. Man I wished they would bring this back, because we are getting dumber on geography again.
Now, Netflix is rebooting this classic series into a modern cartoon. Everybody asks “WHERE is Carmen Sandiego?”, but nobody asks “WHO is Carmen Sandiego?” The iconic woman in red returns for new international capers and a peek into her past. Featuring Gina Rodriguez as Carmen and Finn Wolfhard as Player.
The major difference in this series, Carmen is actually a good woman! Carmen goes around the world and steals artifacts from other thieves. Yep, she is stealing from the bad guys. She has given up her evil ways from the game shows, and is now a anti-heroic, Robin Hood type of character.
This new series will also explore the origins of the international thief, so we will get to learn a lot of backstory from Carmen? I wonder if any references to ACME or Rockapella will be mentioned? And Netflix is also working on a live-action Carmen Sandiego movie featuring Gina Rodriguez.
