Geek Alabama Good News Fridays

This week, the ESPYS were held.  And each year, two special awards are handed out to special people.  The Arthur Ashe Courage Award is given to a person or team who has made the most significant or compelling humanitarian contribution in transcendence of sports in a given year.  The winner this year was Robin Roberts from Good Morning America!  Here’s video featuring Robin Roberts’ Journey and the acceptance speech from her!

The other special award is the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance which is given to a deserving member of the sporting world who has overcome great obstacles through perseverance and determination.  This year, the award went to Dick and Rick Hoyt, a father and son team who have participated in races together for more than 30 years. They were running in their final event at the Boston Marathon when the bombings happened.  Here’s video about their race and their acceptance speech, it’s a must watch!
