Learn More About Rocket City Weather Fest 2026

Join us for the 2026 Rocket City Weather Fest on February 7th from 10 AM to 3 PM in Huntsville, Alabama! Hosted by the American Meteorological Society / National Weather Association Student Chapter at UAH, this exciting annual event brings together meteorology enthusiasts, students, professionals, and the local community for a day full of weather education and fun.

The event will feature a variety of interactive activities across multiple locations, with the Shelby Center at UAH serving as the primary venue. Engage with local meteorologists and participate in all-day activities!

 

All-Day Activities:

Kid’s Experiments and Activities, Tours of SWIRLL, Exhibitor Booths and Vehicles.

 

Key Events:

  • Keynote Speaker: Dr. Josh Wurman and Dr. Karen Kosiba of the UAH FARM (Flexible Array of Radars and Mesonets) Weather Research Facility!
  • Other Speakers Include: Meteorologist Grace Anello from WAAY-31 and Chief Meteorologist Danielle Dozier from WHNT-19
  • Weather Briefing: Delivered by AES students, providing the latest insights into current weather patterns.
  • Weather and Society in Panel: Learn about the intersection of weather and society from experts in the field:
    • Dr. Lee Ellenburg, Associate State Climatologist and Research Scientist at UAH’s Earth System Science Center
    • Ronan Lucey, Research Scientist for NASA Disasters at UAH’s Earth System Science Center
    • Ben Luna, Meteorologist for TN Valley Weather
    • Dr. Karen Kosiba – Managing Director of the F.A.R.M. (Flexible Array of Radars and Mesonets) Facility
  • Student Lightning Talks: Students give short talks about the research they’ve done!
  • Live Experiments: Learn more about the world of weather with some experiments done by our students.
  • Exhibitor Fair: Come interact with members of our local weather community including representatives from NWS, WAAY-31, WHNT-19, and more!
  • Tours of the Severe Weather Institute – Radar & Lightning Laboratories (SWIRLL) Facility on UAH’s Campus: Happening all day – come stop by and see our facilities up close!
