We were invited to Mountain Brook City Hall by Mayor Graham Smith and were completely overwhelmed by Southern hospitality. Seeing the Union Jack flying alongside the Stars and Stripes for what felt like an official diplomatic visit was something we’ll never forget. Mayor Smith was warm, welcoming and incredibly down to earth. A huge thank you to our great friend Billy Borland for making it all happen.
Afterwards we spent more time exploring Mountain Brook, wandering around the old mill, admiring the beautiful homes and stopping by Church Street Coffee for coffee and cookies. Every visit makes us appreciate this community even more.
Later we headed to Saw’s Juke Joint, a proper Alabama barbecue spot packed with character. We tucked into pulled pork, the best sausage I’ve ever had, and tried devilled eggs and Alabama white sauce for the first time. It genuinely felt like our taste buds had been reborn.
Mayor Smith had kindly given us a $50 Village Gold gift card, so we spent it at Piggly Wiggly filling a basket with drinks and snacks for the Mountain Brook Fire Department as a small thank you for the warm welcome they gave us during our last visit.
