Welcome to the Good News Fridays segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Good News Fridays will feature something good, wholesome, positive, and overall something great. After a long and stressful week, we all need something good to read or watch on Fridays! Enjoy a heartwarming post below.
This video starts the moment we step off the plane in Orlando and begin the long drive north towards what will become our home for the next couple of months. With timezones against us and exhaustion kicking in, we make it as far as St. Augustine before pulling over for the night, stopping first at Zaxby’s for our first taste of southern fast food and the kind of warm service that always seems to stick with us here.
After a few hours sleep in a roadside Holiday Inn Express, we’re back on the road before sunrise for a Buc-ee’s breakfast and a quiet morning drive along the I-10 as Florida slowly wakes up around us.
Crossing into Alabama ended up affecting us more than we expected. Standing in the welcome centre, thinking about the memories we’ve made here over the years and how much this state has genuinely changed our lives, it all became a bit emotional.
Eventually we arrive in Birmingham, Alabama, our new temporary home, checking into the biggest apartment we’ve ever stayed in before heading straight out into Lakeview District for burgers, beer and one of the best meals I’ve ever had in America at Jack Brown’s.
