Welcome to the Trainscapes segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Trainscapes will feature train content including videos of trains and behind the scenes action of trains and locomotives. Some people have an interest in seeing trains, and we here at Geek Alabama aim to please the train lovers!
What happens to locomotives and engines when they’re no longer needed? The go to a place, a placed called….The Deadline! One of these happens to be at BNSF’s Northtown Yard in Minneapolis, MN. We’ll get an up-close look at the power stored, see some RARE units, and learn a little about them. There are some NEAT locomotives to be seen!
Northtown Yard is BNSF’s main yard in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul area. It’s also home to a rather large deadline of locomotives; power no longer needed, which waits an uncertain fate. In the last few months, the deadline as grown shrank, and changed a LOT. Lots of neat things are in here; a Santa Fe Slug, SUPER rare SD9, GP30 bodies, MRL units, and much more!
