The year is 2024.

Humanity is waging war – not against a threatening alien species – but against itself throughout devastating conflicts in East Europe, and in the Middle-East. Democracy is at its biggest risk. 99% of humans are experiencing economic uncertainties, inability to find affordable housing and increasingly demanding jobs. Our planet is quickly showing signs of exhaustion. Digital technology is rapidly taking over every single aspect of human life, and humans can no longer live without computers. Cars are now self-driving. Books are being written by AI. Libraries are losing government funding, bookstores are disappearing one by one and books are thrown out into the bin to make space for large televisions.

Yet…

A small number of hopeful humans refuse to let this narrative unfold. With hearts full of optimism, kindness and courage, they fight the current trends to give humanity back its most glorious state and to celebrate perhaps its brightest invention: the book.

Introducing…

Protectors of the Written Word is a creative non-fiction book telling the extraordinary real-life stories of 25 inspiring humans who have dedicated their lives to spreading the joys of reading.

If you follow the news, you’ll find that our world may very well seem like the preface of a bad 1950s dystopian novel. Protectors of the Written Word helps us rediscover that our world is also filled with kind souls, showing humanity at its best. These wonderful human-beings aren’t just protecting books but humanity as a whole. In essence, this book shows evidence that we are in charge of our future. That we’re able to rise through incredible challenges, and foster a sense of unity helping us rise above our differences to provide the best possible opportunities for future generations.

From the café-lined streets of Europe to the bustling markets of Africa, Protectors of the Written Word takes you on an incredible journey spanning continents, offering exclusive glimpses into the unique lives of true heroes of literacy – from endearing booksellers to passionate librarians.

It is – above all – a love letter to all book lovers who believe books must be protected at all costs in age of digital technology.

As of July 24th, this project has raised $75,000 of their $6,638 goal. This project has 3 days left to raise as much as it can. For a pledge of $10, you will get one eBook.  For a pledge of $48, you will get one book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1000libraries/1000-libraries-protectors-of-the-written-word?
