Our Inspiration Behind Veba
When Veon emigrated to the US from Jamaica at the tender age of 7, she had already discovered a passion for education, engineering and technology. That passion brought her to a career in computer science and a position at one of the largest tech firms in the world. Then Veon became a mom — and everything changed.
She was struggling with an issue that many parents face: overproduction of breast milk and the challenge of keeping track of it all. When one day, after her precious newborn experienced a fever and severe colic due to spoiled milk, Veon knew she needed to do something about it. So she used her tech and engineering background to create a solution that would alleviate this pain point for every parent — and Veba was born.
Why We’re Raising
Building a hardware device is quite an undertaking, but couple that with developing advanced tech and leading the charge as a female founder from a minoritized group — and it definitely adds on additional hurdles when it comes to fundraising. As a result, Veba Baby has been self-funded to date.
This enabled my husband and I to fund the research and development over the past two years and ultimately launching the Veba smart baby bottle monitor in August of 2023. But now we’re ready to take the innovation even further, with Veba 2.0. We’re developing even more advanced features to help transform the parenting journey — making the feeding experience easier, healthier and safer than ever before.
- Consultations – Access to live sessions with Lactation Consultants and local Pediatricians.
- Milestone Insights – Care tips and insight on children based on their current age / developmental milestone.
- Baby Care Tracking – Ability for parents to track pumping sessions, milk output, and vital infant care updates like sleep routines, growth, and medications.
- Community- Parents can connect locally with other parents that have a child in the same age group – ask/answer questions to the community.
- Households – Provides extended family caregivers and daycares with access to the app to keep all caregivers in sync.
