OCTOBER 25, 1946…

In the dimly lit halls of Cambridge in 1946, where ideas clashed like thunder, an historic 10-minute confrontation unfolded between two intellectual giants, Ludwig Wittgenstein and Karl Popper, resulting in one philosopher allegedly threatening the other with a burning hot fire poker. To this day, no one can agree on precisely what took place in those fiery minutes.

We invite you to embark on a journey into the minds of these great philosophers with WITTGENSTEIN’S POKER, a short film that brings to life this legendary clash. This captivating animation will explore the real-life encounter famously known as the Cambridge Poker Incident, where Wittgenstein (voiced by Richard E. Grant) faced off against Popper (voiced by Karl Markovics). A third man, Bertrand Russell (voiced by Brian Cox) was also present in the room, acting as the umpire of the event.

Under the skilled direction of Christian De Vita, renowned for his work on Wes Anderson’s FANTASTIC MR. FOX and Tim Burton’s FRANKENWEENIE, and with a screenplay by producer Casey Cohen, this story is adapted from the best-selling book by ex-BBC journalists David Edmonds and John Eidinow. In a traditional 2D hand-drawn animation style complemented by a watercolour aesthetic, this film will immerse viewers into the intellectual battleground where a 10-minute argument intensified emotions to a boiling point that became instant folklore.

Join us in immortalizing this historic moment on screen and be part of a project selected by Kickstarter and the Annecy International Animated Film Festival as part of their prestigious call for creators. Your support will help us complete this remarkable short film and will contribute to the ongoing legacy of these era-defining philosophers.

As of May 27th, this project has raised $46,500 of their $38,227 goal.  This project has 3 days left to raise as much as it can.  For a pledge of $13, you will get a digital copy of the film.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one digital bundle.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wittgensteinspoker/wittgensteins-poker-animated-short-film?
