Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at:  https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

The Temple is the largest independent art project on playa. The Burning Man temple grant covers some of the expenses, but each year, the Temple teams rely mostly on crowdfunding (this campaign!) and large private donors.

The Temple is one of the most special places in the Black Rock City. Holding space for tens of thousands of people each year, She helps us reflect, remember, grieve, let go, and feel deeply.

A welcoming upside down desert flower, Temple of the Heart offers solace and respite. But more importantly, she offers a feeling – that of a warm embrace, of being wrapped in maternal love. Covered in Eastern European floral lace patterns, the ceiling panels will bask the room in a beautiful shadow. At the center of the Heart Chamber, the Temple’s main gathering space, lies the Rose Altar. This pillar is adorned with hundreds of community-made flowers.

Co-creating with the community

One of the most important aspects of designing this year’s Temple was to include the community in Her creation. We recognize that not everyone is local to the Bay Area or can offer a lot of their time volunteering. So to make it easier for folks to create a piece of the Temple, we are inviting them to design & build a flower for the Rose Altar. That’s what the Temple is really about – this community coming together! If you can’t make flowers but want to help out, you can also fund large altar flowers through one of the rewards.

We can’t do this without you

Unlike the Man and other beloved Burning Man infrastructure, the Temple is almost entirely funded by us – the community. As you can imagine, building a Temple of this magnitude requires a large budget. The Burning Man Temple grant only covers a small portion of the expenses.

As of April 5th, this project has raised $117,000 of their $100,000 goal. This project has 20 days left to raise as much as it can.  For a pledge of $25, you will get a sticker.  For a pledge of $50, you will get a sticker and buff.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/temple-of-the-heart/temple-of-the-heart?
