Did you know the Māui dolphin, called Popoto in Māori, was named after the legendary Polynesian folk hero? Did you also know they are critically endangered? And they can only be found in New Zealand!
Popoto the Māui Dolphin is told through the eyes of a young dolphin. Popoto takes us off the shore and into the ocean, where we explore the effects pollution and overfishing have had on his home. But most importantly, Popoto teaches kids that their actions matter and encourages children to reuse, reduce, and recycle for the sake of our Earth and its oceans. Accompanied by beautiful illustrations, Popoto invites families to take a deeper look at his undersea world. We want to excite you about nature; to educate and inspire young environmentalists to take action.
The book offers gentle suggestions that encourage kids to help by organizing cleanup days, reducing their plastic use, writing government officials, and taking action to fight pollution and protect our marine life.
Popoto reminds us to be positive and look at what we can do to help! It reminds us that kids, much like Popoto, might be small, but their actions and words matter.
